World News: The 17th BRICS Summit, held on July 6–7, 2025, in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, has sparked fresh international debate. The controversy began with a sharp response from U.S. President Donald Trump, who accused the BRICS alliance of attempting to undermine America's global influence.

Trump did not just criticize BRICS in words—he also warned of consequences for countries supporting the alliance's policies, signaling a potential shift in the U.S.’s economic and diplomatic posture.

Trump Warns of Tariffs, Suggests Economic War

Sharing his views on Truth Social, Trump wrote, Any country aligning itself with the anti-American agenda of BRICS will face an additional 10% import duty. There will be no exceptions.”

According to Trump, BRICS is fostering a new form of global polarity that directly threatens American leadership. He emphasized that he will not allow the United States to be weakened under any circumstances.

White House Reaction: Close Monitoring of BRICS Activities

On Monday, White House Press Secretary Caroline Leavitt confirmed that Trump's team is keeping a close watch on all developments surrounding BRICS. She stated, “The President believes that BRICS is working to dismantle the unilateral global order. The United States will respond strategically to any nation moving in that direction.”

This response reflects growing concern within U.S. political circles about BRICS' evolving role and its possible challenge to American interests.

BRICS Expansion: Growing Global Influence

This year's summit saw BRICS expand its membership to include Egypt, the UAE, Iran, Indonesia, and Ethiopia. With these additions, the bloc now represents a population majority of the global South, commands around 40% of the world’s GDP, and exerts significant control over international trade flows.

BRICS finance ministers and central bank governors, in a joint statement, expressed deep concern over unilateral sanctions, rising tariffs, and other restrictive trade practices. They called for strengthening rules-based multilateral institutions like the WTO and urged global powers to avoid triggering trade wars.

Signals of a New Global Confrontation

Trump’s strong response suggests that if he returns to office, the U.S. could undergo a major realignment of its foreign and trade policies. His rhetoric not only marks a political stance but also hints at a looming economic conflict between the U.S. and the growing BRICS alliance.

Is a BRICS vs. America Showdown on the Horizon?

While BRICS nations advocate for a multipolar world order, the United States views their rise as a potential threat to its global dominance. With Trump’s recent warning, it is increasingly clear that the coming months may witness heightened tensions and strategic realignments—possibly setting the stage for a new economic rivalry on the world stage.
